Coaching Rec Basketball can be a fun and rewarding experience for our volunteers, but also challenging at times. The goal of recreational basketball is to teach young players the basics and fundamentals needed to play the game. If winning at the Recreational level is the number one goal then you are there for the wrong reasons. I do understand that there are some competitive Rec leagues out there. These types of leagues are not common in the smaller communities. Teach your players the basics and help them understand the game of basketball and winning will take care of itself. Your players are there to learn and will be looking to their coach for guidance.

Make every attempt to make it a fun experience for your players while striving to develop their basketball skills. Basketball is a game, and through my experience, there were many rec coaches needed to be reminded of that.
